video game listing
I believe most video games are a poor way to spend your time unless it is an educational game because you are having fun while learning which is a rare activity sometimes. One game that was educational on the list was the Re-mission game because it takes you on a journey through a patients body with different types of cancer and shows you the affects on the body. Another educational game I found was on http://www.adultswim.com/games/. The game was called amateur surgeon act 3 and it just makes learning more fun.

I think that videogames do serve and important educational purpose esecilly in the case of the two games mentioned above, but I also feel that they can (in moderation) be a positive way to unwind. Much like reading a book.
I agree about videos being pointless unless they prove a point or are made for educational purposes. Playing games such as Halo or World of Warcraft are mind bogging and they basically waste time, but games such as the one's you mentioned are exciting and fun, as well as educational.
I think that video games can be a great way to spend your time in some cases because no matter what game you are playing it is still stimulating your mind and also can be very fun. If you dont like to play video games then that is one thing but to say that it is a waste of time is another. There is actually research underway that is set out to prove that kids who do play video games are in most cases smarter than kids who do not, simply because when you play you are always using your mind. They can also help with memorization skills as well as adaptive and reaction skills. If all you do is play video games and not connect with the real world then that is a different story because you then are lacking some other skills that you could be learning such as social skills. I do think that some games could be harmful however because of the violence levels of a game.
I have to agree with the last comment that video games are not a complete waste.
You say that video games are "a poor way to spend your time", and I have to ask, "as opposed to what?" Compared to the alternatives, watching TV, listening to music, or getting into trouble, video games provide some pretty important skills. In many video games not only do you learn and apply problem solving strategies, you also learn how to interact with others, and at the rate our society is going, office meeting are going to soon be conducted from home amongst people whom don’t know each other.
None of this is to say that video games or impersonal meetings will ever be better than the real thing. There is no argument that the best thing is to go outside and play with your friends or to be productive around the house, but compared to other mind rotting past times, video games are looking pretty good.
